MMOs attract a lot of players across various platforms, so does The Elder Scrolls Online support cross-play?

In recent times, we've seen a rise in MMORPGs make their way to a number of platforms. Whereas before they used to be primarily found on PC only, more MMOs like The Elder Scrolls Online and Final Fantasy XIV can be enjoyed on console, too. While we wait for news on The Elder Scrolls 6, many have found solace in ESO. With huge areas to explore, hundred of quests, and having recently been upgraded for current-gen consoles, Tamriel is looking better than ever.

So what does that mean when it comes to servers and cross-play? Can players on PC play ESO alongside those on Xbox or PlayStation?

Well, here's what you need to know.

Is The Elder Scrolls Online Cross-Play?

The Elder Scrolls Online does not feature cross-play, at least not in the traditional sense. What this means is that PC and Mac players cannot play alongside PlayStation or Xbox players, though they do share a server with Stadia players.

Essentially, each platform has their own server which they'll share with that platform's generation. So, PlayStation players will have a server containing only PS4 and PS5 players. Xbox shares theirs between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players.

It seems that this will be the case for the foreseeable future. ZeniMax has revealed no intention of bringing cross-play to ESO, and while player counts are still doing nicely across all platforms there's no real rush to make the change either.

Recently, The Elder Scrolls Online revealed its next chapter - High Isle, which will be heading to PC and Stadia on June 6 and to consoles slightly later on June 21.
