Next in our Pokemon GO comparison series: Gardevoir vs. Gallade.

Two Pokemon, both alike in dignity, in fair Pokemon GO, where we lay our scene—Gardevoir and Gallade are among the most difficult evolution branches to reckon with. Both can evolve from Ralts (#280) using 25 candies and Kirlia (#281) using 100 candies, though Gallade has two caveats. Trainers will need their chosen Kirlia to be male and have a ready Sinnoh Stone.

Pokemon GO: Gardevoir vs. Gallade

For reader convenience, we're placing each Pokemon in its own subheading with a proper analysis at the below. These two are listed in region release order.

Gardevoir

Gardevoir is the final evolution of Hoenn region poster psychic-type, Ralts. Nowadays, it has gained a dual-typing with fairy. It was originally released with the bulk of the Hoenn region Pokemon in December 2017 with its shiny variant implemented as a treat for its Community Day on August 2019. It does not appear in the wild.

Gardevoir has the following stats:

  • Maximum CP: 3497
  • Maximum HP: 154
  • Attack: 237
  • Defense: 195
  • Stamina: 169

It's worth noting that these are listed without the "Best Buddy Bonus," but do display their level 50 values.

Its best moveset includes the quick move Confusion and charged move(s) Psychic, Synchronise, or Dazzling Gleam. Additionally, it has vulnerabilities to poison, steel, and ghost-types but is strong against other psychic-types with a double resistance to dragon and fighting-types.

This Pokemon's PokeDex number is 282. It is a fan favorite and is best known for its strong bond with its trainer. If Gardevoir senses its trainer is in danger, it will do everything in its power to protect them.

Gallade

Gallade is the Sinnoh-region exclusive evolution of Ralts. It was implemented in Pokemon GO in January 2019 and had its shiny variant released for the Pokemon's Community Day in August 2019. It also cannot be encountered in the wild.

Instead of sharing its typing with fairy, Gallade becomes a psychic and fighting-type. It has the following stats:

  • Maximum CP: 3497
  • Maximum HP: 154
  • Attack: 237
  • Defense: 195
  • Stamina: 169

It's worth noting that these are listed without the "Best Buddy Bonus," but do display their level 50 values.

Its best moveset includes the quick move Confusion and charged move(s) Psychic, Close Combat, or Synchronize. Gallade is resistant to damage from fighting and rock-types with vulnerabilities to fairy, flying, and ghost-types.

Unlike Gardevoir, Gallade can only be male. Its PokeDex number is 475. According to its description, it is the "master of courtesy and swordsmanship."

Gardevoir vs. Gallade: Which is Better?

While both Pokemon have mega evolutions, neither of these forms are available in Pokemon GO. Therefore, we can't compare them.

This is a tough call. Gardevoir and Gallade are evenly matched in base stats, CP threshold, and maximum HP. It really comes down to their utility and versatility on the battlefield—and, using this criteria, we have to go with Gardevoir.

As a fighting-type, Gallade does have access to a wider variety of opponents sporting it as one of their vulnerabilities. However, its fighting-type move pool is extremely limited and lacking the best of the group: Dynamic Punch. This makes it easily outclassed by superior fighting-types and fighting-type-hybrids such as Machamp or Lucario.

Gardevoir, on the other hand, has little to no competition in its field thanks to its fairy-typing. When sporting the charged move Dazzling Gleam, Gardevoir is easily one of—if not the exclusive—best choices of its type within Pokemon GO. Its only true competitor is Togekiss which is both harder to obtain and has a lower CP threshold.
