Fortnite was originally released on July 21, 2017 and has been drawing in players for over four years since. At launch, it had two modes available: a cooperative PvE "tower defense" mode known as "Save the World," and the ever-popular PvP "Battle Royale" for which it is best known. "Creative" was added the following year in December 2018.
According to a set of data statistics on Business of Apps, the game has brought in $5.1 billion in revenue 2020, alone, with its all-time peak being $5.4 billion in 2018. It clocked an average of over 80 million active users per day last year and has around 350 million registered users as of 2021. This, unsurprisingly, makes it the most popular battle royale on the market at the time of writing.
Things only seem to be looking up for Fortnite as this most recent chapter launch saw millions of log-ins which ended up causing such a digital traffic jam that the occasion nearly broke the game servers. Who knows where this title will go from here?
